Why Choose a Certified Legal Document Preparer? (CLDP)

You can count on me to provide you with the upmost affordable and reliable experience. Often times, the documents prepared by the attorney have actually been prepared by the attorney’s paralegal.
This is why more and more people are choosing a legal document preparer to prepare their routine legal documents rather than hiring an attorney. Some legal matters can be easily handled without an attorney. For example, many legal proceedings are routine and procedural and do not require legal analysis or advice. Probating your loved one’s estate, filing divorce, preparing estate planning documents or seeking to evict a tenant can often be easily accomplished without hiring a lawyer. On the other hand, people with serious criminal matters and complex civil claims should seek legal representation.

Paralegal Vs. CLDP

A paralegal refers to someone who works for and is supervised by an attorney. A paralegal, by law, cannot do work for the general public on their own. Paralegals cannot accept fees for services or independently prepare documents for consumers/the general public.
An Arizona Certified Legal Document Preparer is certified by the Arizona Supreme Court to provide services to the public without the supervision of an attorney. If a paralegal prepares legal documents and does not work under the supervision of an attorney, and is not an AZCLDP, that person is engaging in the unauthorized practice of law.
AZCLDPs undergo extensive background checks, education and testing before earning their Certification. In addition, they take a required 10 hours of continuing education every year, and are re-certified every 2 years.
AZCLDPs are allowed to prepare any legal document for the public, as long as they do not provide legal advice, or attempt to represent someone in court. They cannot provide advice, but can provide general and factual information on court procedures, to help you decide how you should best proceed.  They prepare legal documents according to your instructions, and you are responsible for your own documents, much as an attorney is responsible for his case. If, after receiving factual information, you are unsure of your needs, you should seek advice from an attorney, CPA, or other appropriate professional.
